We love our dogs endlessly — but have you ever looked at yours and wondered whether the feeling is actually mutual?

Dogs might not be able to tell us how they feel, but they communicate constantly through body language, habits and the little choices they make every day.

Here are 10 signs your dog may be more attached to you than you realise.

1. They Follow You Around

Bathroom trip? They’re there. Making coffee? Also there.

Dogs often follow the people they feel comfortable and connected with. Of course, sometimes they’re also hoping you’re heading towards the treat cupboard.

2. They Choose to Sleep Near You

Sleep leaves dogs vulnerable, so choosing to curl up beside you — or simply sleep in the same room — can be a lovely sign that they feel safe and relaxed around you.

And no, they don’t necessarily have to be touching you.

3. They’re Excited When You Come Home

The wagging tail, happy little dance or immediate search for their favourite toy when you walk through the door?

Your arrival matters to them.

Some dogs are much calmer than others, so don’t worry if yours doesn’t throw a celebration every time you return.

4. They Check In With You

Watch your dog the next time you’re out together.

Do they occasionally turn around to see where you are?

These little check-ins can show that they’re keeping track of you and using you as a point of reference while exploring their surroundings.

5. They Bring You Their Favourite Things

Sometimes a toy means please throw this immediately.

Other times, your dog simply seems determined to bring you whatever treasure they’ve discovered.

Either way, choosing you as the person they want to interact with is a pretty good compliment.

6. They Seek You Out When They’re Unsure

Thunder, an unfamiliar noise or a strange new environment can make some dogs look towards their person for reassurance.

If your dog comes closer to you when they’re uncertain, your presence may help them feel safer.

7. They Relax Completely Around You

Affection isn’t always dramatic.

A dog sprawled upside down on the sofa, snoozing deeply or happily doing absolutely nothing beside you can say a lot.

Feeling comfortable enough to completely relax around someone is its own kind of trust.

8. They Lean Against You

Some dogs are serious leaners.

They’ll press their whole body against your leg, sit directly on your feet or somehow turn an entire sofa into one tiny shared seat.

Physical closeness can be one way dogs seek comfort and affection.

9. They Want You Involved in Their Fun

Your dog grabs a toy, looks directly at you and waits.

That’s your invitation.

Whether it’s playing tug, going for a walk or racing around the house for no apparent reason, repeatedly choosing you as a playmate is another sign of a strong relationship.

10. They Simply Choose to Be Near You

This might be the sweetest sign of all.

Your dog has their bed. There’s an empty sofa. There are plenty of other places they could be.

And yet, they’re lying on the floor beside your chair.

Dogs don’t all show affection in the same way. Some want constant cuddles, while others are much more independent. What matters is the overall pattern of comfort, trust and connection — not whether your dog displays every behaviour on this list.

So, Does Your Dog Love You?

Probably in a very dog-like way.

The strongest relationships aren’t necessarily the ones with the most dramatic greetings or constant cuddling. They’re often found in the everyday moments: your dog checking where you are, relaxing beside you, asking you to play or simply choosing your company when they could be anywhere else.

And really, isn’t that what makes having a dog so special?
